What does a gold Expert Advisor do?
A gold EA is an Expert Advisor configured to automate trading decisions for a gold instrument. In MetaTrader, an EA is a program that can submit trading requests according to its rules. An indicator can display analysis without placing orders; a signal service is a separate way to receive or copy trading decisions. Check which kind of product you are evaluating.
The word gold identifies the intended market, not a universal method. Two gold EAs can differ in their supported symbols, exposure, holding periods and controls. Start with the product's current guide rather than treating every automated gold product as interchangeable.
Can an MT4 EA run in MT5?
MT4 and MT5 use different program environments. MetaQuotes documents changes that developers must address when adapting MQL4 programs to MQL5. Renaming a compiled MT4 file does not convert it into an MT5 EA. Obtain the version explicitly supplied for your platform.
Gold EA's setup uses an approved .ex5 file in desktop MT5. Confirm the EA name and version before installing it. A familiar filename in a forwarded message is insufficient provenance. Keep the download and guide together so support can identify the same build you are running.
Where does the automation actually run?
Gold EA runs in the desktop terminal on your computer or a compatible hosting environment. Opening the dashboard on a phone does not move that execution to the phone. Think of the dashboard as a place to review your setup and reported activity; the terminal remains part of the trading workflow.
Decide how the terminal will remain available during the sessions you intend to trade. Write down where it runs, who maintains that machine and how you will notice an interruption. A VPS can change the hosting arrangement, but it does not remove your responsibility to verify the EA's operation.
What does connected mean?
MT5 separates platform trading permission, an individual EA's permission and account-level trading availability. A program being attached to a chart does not establish that every trading permission is enabled. Read the relevant status and any explicit error before changing settings.
Also separate the broker connection from Gold EA's own service connection. A recent dashboard report establishes what was received, not that an order should open immediately. If these states disagree, record the account, time and exact message; use the connection guide instead of changing unrelated parameters.
What still needs a human decision?
You still choose the broker account, software, trade-size settings and conditions under which you will pause or review the setup. Automation applies rules consistently when its required conditions are present. That consistency says nothing by itself about whether the rules will make money.
Ask how exposure can change after the first order, what happens during an interruption and which protections depend on the terminal. Controls vary across Gold EA products. Read the relevant risk disclosure and avoid assuming a feature shown on one EA exists on every other EA.
What should you check before choosing one?
Build a short evaluation record: intended MT5 account, exact gold symbol, supported account mode, EA version, operating costs and the evidence behind any result you are shown. Keep unanswered questions visible rather than filling gaps with a promotional screenshot.
Next, review the installation and risk guides, then confirm product access and permanent account allocations before activation. The useful outcome of this process is a setup you understand and can inspect. Neither a polished dashboard nor successful installation establishes a future trading result.
