Demo and live MT5 setups: what needs a fresh check

A working demo setup does not verify a live account. Recheck account identity, permissions and Gold EA activation before the switch.

Treat the account switch as a new setup check

A demo session can help you practise using the terminal and following an installation guide. It does not confirm that a different live account has the same login, instrument settings, permissions or Gold EA licence assignment. Repeat the relevant checks before activating on another account.

Keep the purpose of a technical check specific: locating a file, reading a message or confirming a connection. A successful setup check is not evidence of future returns. This guide concerns installation and account identity, not a decision about when or whether to trade live.

Protect your permanent account allowance

Preview accounts become permanent when payment succeeds. On paid access, first activation permanently uses a slot. A demo account cannot later free its paid allocation for a live account. Unlinking does not restore the slot.

Before any first activation, decide which account you intend to assign. If your purpose is only to learn the installation screens, read the guide and confirm the licence implications with support before entering a licence key on an unfamiliar account.

Confirm the account and the broker's instrument

MT5 signs in with an account number, password and server. Check the account details again after switching. A familiar workspace or chart layout does not identify the account currently connected.

Inspect the exact broker symbol and follow the selected EA's required chart and timeframe. Market Watch's Specification view contains broker-defined instrument details and trading sessions. Do not copy a symbol name or setup assumption from a screenshot of a different account.

Review permissions deliberately

MT5 can be configured to disable automated trading when accounts change. Check its current state after a switch rather than assuming it carried over. Keep protective settings in place unless you understand why your intended setup requires a change.

Remember that a disabled automated-trading control does not stop every part of an EA from running. It therefore does not establish that no licence activation or service communication can occur. Confirm the account before loading and activating the licensed EA.

Record the result for this account

After the intended setup, check the current Gold EA account status and the EA's messages. Record the account, product version and any unresolved warning. Label screenshots as demo or live so you can interpret them correctly later.

If a live setup behaves differently, send support the two setups' relevant details rather than assuming the earlier one proves compatibility. Keep account credentials and licence keys out of the comparison. Diagnose the specific difference before changing several settings at once.
